Imported Vehicle Buying Checklist: Documents, Condition and Landed Cost
Verify identity, condition, drivetrain, documents, inspection, shipping and total landed cost before buying an imported vehicle online.
Buying a vehicle from an overseas supplier requires more verification than an ordinary online order. A clear listing title and attractive price do not establish road legality, condition or final delivered cost.
Verify the exact vehicle
Request the VIN or chassis number, model year, trim, engine, fuel type, transmission, seating capacity and odometer reading. Confirm whether the vehicle is new, used, refurbished or previously damaged.
Check the drivetrain
Do not assume a vehicle is electric because it appears in an electric category. Obtain engine or motor specifications, battery capacity where applicable, and a photograph of the manufacturer data plate.
Request independent inspection
Use an inspection company that is independent of the seller. The report should cover body, frame, engine or battery, transmission, brakes, tyres, electronics and diagnostic codes.
Validate ownership and export documents
Confirm title or registration, commercial invoice, bill of sale, export certificate and any required certificate of origin. Match the VIN across every document.
Confirm destination-country compliance
Check age limits, steering-side rules, emissions, safety standards, recall status and eligibility for registration before paying.
Calculate landed cost
Add vehicle price, inland transport, port fees, freight, insurance, customs duty, taxes, clearing, storage, inspection and local delivery.
Use protected payment terms
Make payment only to the verified contracting entity. For high-value purchases, consider escrow, a letter of credit or staged payments tied to inspection and shipping documents.
GradeZO listings such as the JAC Refine M4 manual MPV should be treated as inquiry starting points. Obtain verified documents and a complete landed-cost quotation before purchase.
