Mini Stereo Amplifier Buying Guide: Power, Speakers and Connections
Compare compact stereo amplifiers by honest power ratings, speaker compatibility, inputs, power supply and setup requirements.
A mini stereo amplifier can add Bluetooth and compact speaker power to a desk, bedroom, workshop or small living space. Product pages often mix continuous, maximum and peak power figures, so the best choice starts with matching the amplifier to the speakers and power supply.
Compare the same kind of power rating
RMS or continuous output is more useful than a large peak number. Look for output per channel at a stated speaker impedance, supply voltage and distortion level. If those conditions are missing, do not assume the headline number represents normal listening power.
Match speaker impedance
Passive speakers commonly use nominal impedances such as 4, 6 or 8 ohms. Use only loads supported by the amplifier. Connecting an unsupported low-impedance load can cause overheating, distortion or protection shutdown.
Check the power supply
The adapter can limit real output. Confirm whether one is included, its voltage and current rating, plug type and local mains compatibility. Never substitute a supply with the wrong voltage or polarity.
Review inputs and controls
Bluetooth is convenient, but wired inputs can be more reliable for a television, computer or audio interface. Check for RCA, 3.5mm, USB or optical inputs as needed. A phono turntable usually requires a phono preamp unless the amplifier explicitly includes one.
Plan the speaker connection
Confirm whether the amplifier accepts binding posts, banana plugs or spring clips and what cable size fits. Keep bare wire strands tidy to prevent shorts, and leave ventilation openings clear.
Product example
The AirAux AS-22 mini Bluetooth amplifier is listed with a 45W RMS figure and a separate 300W peak marketing figure. Compare its continuous rating, supply and supported speaker load with your setup rather than treating the two figures as interchangeable.
